Who is Superman?

Let's Start with a simple Question, Who is Superman? Is he a Human, an alien or a God?

Well, to be honest, I had same questions when I was new to the Comic World. 

But I guarantee that after reading this Article you won't be.

Superman is a Superhero created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, appearing in American Comic Books published by DC Comics.

Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 on April 18 1938, and gradually became famous on many platforms like radio shows, TV shows, newspaper strips, movies and Video games.

ORIGIN OF SUPERMAN

Kal-El a.k.a Superman was born on the planet named Krypton. 

His Biological father, Jor-El sent him to Earth because their Planet Krypton was getting destroyed.

Superman's Spaceship in which he escaped his planet, landed in the American Countryside where he was adopted by a married couple named Jonathan and Martha Kent.

They named him Clark Kent.

As the time passed Clark started to discover his power and so his parents.

Jonathan and Martha advised him to use his superpower for humanity and to fight evils, and He did the same.

Clark started to fight crimes being anonymous as he started to use a made up name - "SUPERMAN" with a colorful and unique costume.

In the normal life, He was a Journalist at a local NewsPaper agency named "Daily Planet" at a fictional location named Metropolis.

At Daily Planet, Clark meets Lois Lane and fell in love with her.

Although Superman wasn't the first Superhero, but he really popularised the Superhero Genre among people.

POWERS, ABILITIES AND WEAKNESS OF SUPERMAN

First of all, Let's Talk about Superpowers and Abilities, Superman is one of the superhero who can do almost everything at super level.

He has:

• Super Durability (Impenetrable Skin, bullets bounce off after hitting him)
• Super Agility
• Super Strength
• Super Stamina
• Super Speed (almost equal to the Flash)
• X-Ray Vision inside his eyes, which allows him to see through objects.
• Laser in his eyes, through which he project beams of Incinerating rays.
• Super Breath capacity (He can breathe a large amount of air, blow it off with high speed)
• Super Hearing ability.
• Ability to fly with very high speed.

Well, that's a lot of Superpowers to be honest.

Power of Superman

Now, let's talk about Weakness of Superman, The Only known weakness of Superman is Kryptonite which reduces his power to almost zero and prolonged exposure can even kill SuperMan.
There are various types of Kryptonite like red, green, black and some more, all of these Kryptonite has different effect on Superman.

History of Superman Games

The First Superman game was launched in the year 1979. 

Unfortunately, the games of superman didn't do well, and produced some of the worst video games.
People started to hate the games of Superman, which led to his name as "Superman Curse", which meant everything associated with Superman will have negative impact.

But, later this mentality of People was changed completely, continue reading to know about that turning point.

OKay!! Now let's me tell you about all the Superman Games ever made.

We will discuss it in two categories:

• Games ft. Superman

SOLO GAMES OF SUPERMAN

1. Year 1979: The first game of superman named "The Superman" was launched in the year 1979, published by famous game publisher Atari Inc. 

• The game featured Superman as a lead character and players take control of Superman and run through the storyline.
• The main Villain of the game was Lex Luthor, Who creates a weapon out of Kryptonite to kill superman, and player had to play again if they die.

2. Year 1985: After Six Year, in 1985, another Game of Superman named "Superman: The Game" was launched in the US by The First Star Software Co. 

• The game was launched for C64 gaming console but soon it was ported to other consoles as well like Atari.
• One thing Unique about this game was that the Villain Darkseid was also playable.

3. Year 1987: In Japan, a new version of Superman game was launched with japanese language and for the japanese Console named Nintendo.

4. Year 1988: Soon after the success of the first Superman Game in Japan, Taito Corporation took the advantage and launched the new "Superman Arcade".

• This game was two player game, where two people can play against each other at the same time.
• Featured John Williams Superman.

5. Year 1989: After 10 years, the 5th game featuring Superman was launched and named "Superman: The Man of Steel". The start of Superman games weren't exciting but the perseverance of the Creators and Publishers made the games a success.

• The game launched and published by Tynesoft Co. under the licence of First Star Software Co.
• The game was an action game with some new features on board like 3D flying and scrolling.
• First Superman Game to have multiple villains namely Lex Luthor and Darkseid.

6. Year 1992: Superman game was launched in the year 1992, and it was launched for the very famous gaming console SEGA Genesis.

• It was side-scrolling or 2D game.
• Players had to play the character of Superman and fight various Villain and finally culminate the supervillain named Brainiac.
• Ironically, it was launched as Superman: The Man of Steel in European Subcontinent.

7. Year 1994: A new game named " Death and Return of Superman" was launched by Sunsoft for NES and SEGA Genesis.

• The game was a beat 'em up type.
• The game had a storyline hardly based on the Death of Superman Comic Issue.

8. Year 1998: The first Superrman Game to launch directly for the Microsoft Windows and MacOS was the Superman Activity Center, it was an educational game based on TV series of Superman, named Superman: The Animated Series. 

• The game was launched by educational software maker, Knowledge Adventure.

9. Year 1999: Until now everything was going well for the games of Superman after its first launch but again in the year 1999, the new game named Superman: New Adventure was launched for Nintendo 64 by Titus Interactive.

• The game tried its best to make the players happy and satisfied but it really failed to do so, because of its bad control, laggy performance and other internal failure.
• It is called One of the Worst games ever made by Critics and Players.

10. Year 2002: After 2000, the Sony Playstation was becoming very famous and Atari Inc. took advantage and launched the new game of Superman named, Superman: Shadow Of Apokolips.

• The game was specially launched for Play Station 2 and Nintendo GameCube.
• The story of the game was based on the Superman: The Animated Series. 
• There were Cut-Scenes in the game whose dialogues and voice was given by the cast which gave the voice for the Animated Series.

11. Year 2002: Atari Inc. launched Superman: The Man of Steel with better functionality and graphics for the Microsoft Console XboX.

• Enhanced game with better graphics and controls.
• Story was based on Man of Steel Comic book. 

12. Year 2003: Atari Inc. launched the next sequel of the game Superman: Shadow of Apokolips and named it Superman: Countdown to Apokolips, it was launched for Game Boy Advance.

• The story of the game was strictly based on the Animated Series.
• There were multiple villains in the game like Livewire, Darkseid, Bruno Mannheim.

13. Year 2005: Superman has always been famous, and hence an Educational Game based on Superman was launched by VTech in the year 2005.

14. Year 2006: After the famous movie named Superman Returns, Warner Bros. wanted a Superman Return game as well, and EA games did that for them.

• The game was really a nice one to play.
• The story basically revolves around similar plot like shown in the movie.
• The game features some additional villains like Metallo and some others.
• It was compatible with almost all the famous Gaming Console of 2006 like Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Play Station 2, Game Boy Advance.

      Another game was launched in the year 2006 named Superman for TV handheld game.

GAMES FEATURING SUPERMAN

1. Year 1995: Sunsoft and Acclaim produced and published Justice League: Task Force for Super NES and Sega Genesis. In this game, Superman was also a playable character.




2. Year 2006: In the year 2006, a new game named Justice League Heroes was developed and published by Snowblind Studio and Warner Bros. Games.

• The game is based on the team of DC superheroes namely Justice League.
• The game was launched for Nintendo DS, Playstation Portable, Xbox and Play Station 2.

3. Year 2008: Mortal Combat vs DC Universe crossover game published by Midway Games.

• The game had characters from Mortal Combat Franchise as well as characters from the DC universe.
• In the end of the storyline, Superman is helped by Shazam and becomes impervious to magic.
• It was launched for Xbox 360 and Play Station 3.

4. Year 2009: Justice League Heroes United was an arcade game by Global VR which had comic characters from the team of Justice League like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Hawkgirl as playable Characters.

5. Year 2011: In the year 2011, Daybreak Games developed a new game named DC Universe Online. 

• The game was published by Daybreak Games in association with Warner Bros. Games.
• The game was a online game having DC characters 
• It had tons of features and the gameplay was action fighting game.
• Superman was a playable character as well in the game.
• launched for Play Station 3 and Microsoft Windows.

6. Year 2012: This year Traveller's Tales developed a game for Windows, Play Station 3, Play Station Vita, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Xbox, Wii and Wii U.

• The game was named as Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.
• Superman was one of the playable character.

7. Year 2013: One of the most played DC games is Injustice: Gods Among Us , developed and published by NetherRealm Studio and Warner Bros. Entertainment respectively. It is an epic battle game with a bunch of DC superheroes and Villains.

• The plot of the game is very impressive and with Superman as protagonist and antagonist both.
• Superman is a playable character in this game as well.
• Graphics and control of the game is really smooth and enhanced.
• It was launched for various platforms including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Wii U.

8. Year 2014: Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham came as a sequel, developed and published by same as before.

• The game was launched for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS.

9. Year 2015: Infinite Crisis, was launched in the year 2015 for Microsoft Windows. The game was Multiplayer Online Battle Arena where player can use Superman as playable Character.

10. Year 2017: After one of the biggest hit, Warner Bros. Entertainment decided to launch a sequel of Injustice: Gods Among Us. They named it simple i.e. Injustice 2.

• Injustice: Gods Among Us was a perfect game but it had some issues as well, but Injustice 2 omitted all those issues.
• Have almost all DC characters and keeps on adding new characters with every update.
• Almost all characters are playable.

11. Year 2018: Lego Games never gets boring, hence the new sequel of Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham was launched in the year 2018.

• Bigger and Better than previous one.

There is not a lot to tell about upcoming Superman Games as it is not Confirmed, but through various reports and rumors, Rocksteady may come up with New Superman Game in the Future.
